Toe-riffic Triples Champions
Bob, Rod and Paul Triumph in the Essex County Triples final.
In a game that mirrored the semi-final, Central took an early lead stretching out to 10-6 and then 17-8 by the 14th end as Bob got into his stride.
Rod did not seem too encumbered by his injury, and badly bruised toe, peeping out of his modified “peep hole” shoes.
Then, as the Southend tide began to turn, and the rain became persistent, Harlow staged a comeback, and with two ends to go the score was 17-11 and with one end to play 17-14.
Both Bob and Rod played good woods on the last end to keep the opposition in check, but it always looked as though Harlow had a chance to make the three they needed to force an extra end.
Paul steadied the ship by drawing shot, only to have it removed by the Harlow skip. Calm to the end “Man Of The Match” Paul then drew second wood.
Ultimately, though, the Harlow skip was unable to manufacture the count of three required and Central ran out worthy winners.
