How To Get To Our Club

Wanstead Central’s green is at the junction of Nutter Lane, Preston Drive and Buckingham Road in Wanstead, London E11 2JA

By Car

If you have a sat-nav then your best bet is to enter the post code E11 2JA. Alternatively, if your sat-nav supports it, try choosing the junction of any of the roads above. The area hasn’t changed a lot so even older sat-navs and older maps should be accurate enough.

For the less technically advanced, here are some more general instructions

The green is close to the M11, the A13, the A406 North Circular and the A12, in fact the Redbridge roundabout mentioned below is the junction of the A12 and the A406.

When approaching from central or east London the simplest choices are to follow the A13 eastward then the A406 northwards to the Redbridge roundabout then follow the instructions “Heading West From The Redbridge Roundabout” below.

Alternatively use the A12 from the Blackwall Tunnel area, through Old Ford, past the 2012 Olympic venue, through Leyton and Leytonstone. From this direction the A12 actually passes under Wanstead and emerges within a stones throw of the club. At the end of the second and longest of two tunnels you will see a pedestrian footbridge over the road and a sneaky 40mph speed camera to your left. Get across to the left hand lane immediately as you will be turning left into Preston Drive at the end of the bus stop. This is a tight turn. Carry straight on down Preston Drive, passing the cricket pitch on your left. The club is just around the left hand bend at the end of the road.

When approaching from north west Essex the quickest route will be down the M11 (watch out for the speed camera just after you enter the 50mph limit), keeping left where the M11 forks, then joining the A406. Keep left and take the first slip labeled for the A12. Keep to the centre or right hand lanes at the lights on the roundabout as you will be taking the A12 at the fourth exit towards Wanstead and London. Then follow the instructions “Heading West From The Redbridge Roundabout” below.

When approaching from the east of Essex then both the A12, the A127 and the A13 are alternatives. The A12 passes through Colchester, Chelmsford, Romford, Newbury Park, Gants Hill and reaches the Redbridge roundabout, where you will be going straight across under the A406 flyover. From this point follow the instructions “Heading West From The Redbridge Roundabout” below. The A127 passes through Southend, Basildon and merges into the A12 at Romford using the flyover at the Gallows Corner roundabout. The A13 from Southend passes Tilbury, Thurrock and Dagenham. At Barking take the slip up to the roundabout and take the third exit for the A406 and Ilford. Keep to the second from right lane as you pass over the Barking and then the Ilford flyovers. Then keep to the left hand lane which becomes the slip road for the Redbridge roundabout. You will be taking the A12 for Wanstead and London exit which is a sort of left turn at the roundabout. Then follow the instruction “Heading West From The Redbridge Roundabout” below.

Heading West From The Redbridge Roundabout: After exiting the roundabout you will find that the A12 soon starts to rise slightly up hill and snakes to the right then left under a pedestrian footbridge. As soon as you pass under the footbridge take the slip road off of the A12 and make your way up to the traffic lights where you should take a right turn into Wanstead High Street. Not far down the High Street is a zebra crossing just after which you should turn right into Grove Park, and then right again into The Avenue after 150 yards. At the end of The Avenue turn right into Leicester Road and then left into Nutter Lane. The club is 150 yards on the right.

By London Underground

There are a number of Central line stations close by, but your best bet is Wanstead. As you exit from the station you will see, from left to right, The Green, an Abbey (Santander) branch, and The George pub, and a block of flats. The good news is that the route is mostly down hill to the club. The bad news is that after the game the reverse route is, not surprisingly, up hill. Cross the road towards the pub and head towards and past the flats. In the distance you will see a pedestrian footbridge and as you reach that you will find the pedestrian only access to Nutter Lane. Go down Nutter Lane, past the cricket pitch to the entrance to the green.
